A nice young queen will lay more vigorously and result in stronger colonies and better honey yields.  We put in a lot of effort over the past couple of months re-queening to ensure most hives have young queens.  The older queens spend the rest of their time in a queen retirement home that we have established.  The queens mostly just hang around playing bridge and croquet all day. Hee hee.

We also use the Autumn to make new colony’s.  Put simply We do this by dividing hives. This new colony requires a new queen bee.  We raise these ourselves earlier in Autumn and introduce them into the new colony’s.  By the end of Autumn these will be full strength colony’s.

We took some time out from work recently and took all our beekeeping staff fishing. They were pleased as they prefer fishing to working.  We all had a great day out.  The sea was calm and the fish were biting.  This pleased Tom, as he gets sea sick,  We all went home with a good lot of fish.  This pleased Lorraine as she likes eating fish. All in all a good outcome.

Thanks guys.  We appreciate all your hard work.
